Set Up Personal Edit Link

This page shows how to make the entries of a Gravity Forms form editable through a personal edit link: install the add-on, enable it on the form, add a page where the form can be edited and lock the fields that must not change.

Install and activate

  1. Upload and activate GravityWP – Personal Edit Link under Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
  2. Enter your license key under Forms → Settings → Personal Edit Link, or manage all GravityWP licenses on the GravityWP settings page.

The license key gives you updates and support. The add-on keeps working without a license.

  1. Open the form and go to Settings → Personal Edit Link.
  2. Check Enable front-end reopen editing.
  3. Review the other settings, such as Token lifetime in days (7 by default) and Maximum resubmissions per entry (1 by default). Personal Edit Link Form Settings explains each setting.
  4. Click Save Settings.

Links can only be created for forms where Enable front-end reopen editing is checked.

Add the edit page

A personal edit link opens a page that contains the form. Use an existing page with the form, or create a page with one of these shortcodes:

Oops! We could not locate your form.

[gravitywp_personal_edit_form id="12" title="false" description="false"]

Replace 12 with your form ID. The gravitywp_personal_edit_form shortcode accepts id, title, description and ajax, like the Gravity Forms shortcode.

The link adds a gwp_reopen_token parameter to the page URL. With a valid token the form opens with the saved answers of the entry. Without the parameter the page shows an empty form for new submissions, as usual.

Lock fields that users may not change

  1. Open the form in the form editor and select the field.
  2. In the field settings, check Not editable in Personal Edit Link.
  3. Save the form.

The field is shown with its saved value but cannot be changed. Admin-only fields and pricing fields (product, option, quantity, shipping, total and credit card) are always locked.

Database requirements

Personal Edit Link uses MySQL or MariaDB named locks so that two edits of the same entry cannot overwrite each other. The locks must run on the same database connection as the entry and token queries.

  • SQLite is not supported.
  • Read/write-splitting database drop-ins such as HyperDB or LudicrousDB, and multi-primary or Galera clusters, are not supported unless all these queries go to the same writer over the same connection.

There is no fallback without locks: when named locks are not available, edits and token changes are refused. With Gravity Forms logging enabled, the lock errors are logged.
