Audit History and Data Retention
Personal Edit Link can log every edit made through a personal edit link, so you can see later what changed in an entry, when and with which link. Use it when entries matter for legal, financial or operational processes. This page also explains how long tokens and audit rows are kept.
Turn on audit history
Store audit history in the form’s Settings → Personal Edit Link is on by default. With it on, every successful edit through a personal edit link is logged. Edits made in the WordPress admin are not part of this log.
View the audit history of an entry
Open the entry under Forms → Entries. The Personal Edit Link box shows the Audit history with one row per edit:
| Column | Content |
|---|---|
| Date | When the edit was saved. |
| Edit | The number of the edit for this entry. |
| User | The logged-in user who made the edit, if any. |
| Changes | The changed fields with their old and new values. |
| Uploads | Files that were added, replaced or removed. |
| Token | The link that was used. |
The log also stores a hash of the IP address and user agent of the edit, not the values themselves.
Data retention
Personal Edit Link keeps its tokens and audit rows in its own database tables. Set how long they are kept under Forms → Settings → Personal Edit Link → Data retention:
| Setting | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Token retention days | 30 | Used, revoked and expired tokens older than this are deleted by a daily cleanup. |
| Audit retention days | empty | Audit rows older than this are deleted by the daily cleanup. Empty keeps them forever. |
Active tokens are never deleted by the cleanup.
Remove all data on uninstall
Uninstalling Personal Edit Link keeps its tables and settings, so a reinstall continues where you left off. To remove everything, check Delete Personal Edit Link tables and settings on uninstall under Forms → Settings → Personal Edit Link before you delete the plugin.
