Personal Edit Link Entry Meta and Merge Tags

Personal Edit Link stores the edit status of an entry as entry meta and offers merge tags to put the edit link in notifications and confirmations. This page lists both, for site builders and developers who filter entries, build views or send links from other forms.

Entry meta

Meta keyLabelValue
gwp_reopen_statePersonal Edit Link stateopen while the entry has an active link; closed after the link closed on submit, expired, or was closed by an admin or workflow.
gwp_reopen_update_countPersonal Edit Link update countNumber of successful edits through Personal Edit Link. Empty means 0.
gwp_reopen_last_opened_atPersonal Edit Link last opened atWhen the latest link was created, in UTC (Y-m-d H:i:s).
gwp_reopen_last_submitted_atPersonal Edit Link last submitted atWhen the entry was last edited through Personal Edit Link, in UTC (Y-m-d H:i:s).
_gwp_reopen_last_token_idnoneInternal ID of the latest token.

The four labeled values are registered as Gravity Forms entry meta: you can add them as columns in the entry list and use them in entry filters and searches, for example to list all entries that are still open for editing.

The token itself is never stored in entry meta; merge tags read it from the Personal Edit Link token table. Workflow steps store a reference to their token in step meta such as workflow_step_STEPID_gwp_pel_token_id.

Merge tags

Merge tagOutput
{gwp_reopen_link url="https://example.com/edit/"}The full edit link: the URL with ?gwp_reopen_token=… added. Without url, the home page URL is used.
{gwp_reopen_token}Only the token of the entry’s active link, to build the URL yourself.
{Field:ID:gwp_reopen_token}The token of the active link of the entry whose ID is in that field, for example in a form that stores the ID of an entry of another form.

All merge tags are empty when the entry has no active link. Treat their output as a password for the entry: send it only to the person who should edit it, and do not show it on public pages, shared dashboards or in logs.
