Link to a dynamic form
A dynamic form shows the labels of one source entry when its page is opened with the dynamic_label URL parameter. The value of that parameter is encrypted, so it must be created with a Dynamic Labels merge tag; a plain entry ID or text in the URL is ignored.
Link with the entry ID
For the Entry ID Field matching method, use {entry_id:dynamic_label_param}. Put it anywhere Gravity Forms replaces merge tags for an entry of the source form: a confirmation, a notification, or a GravityView Custom Content field or link.
https://example.com/grant-application/?dynamic_label={entry_id:dynamic_label_param}
The result looks like this:
https://example.com/grant-application/?dynamic_label=Wm5ZQ2xx...%3D%3D
For example, add a GravityView Custom Content field to a view of the Grants form with an Apply link per grant, or send the link to staff in a notification when a new grant entry is added.
Link with a unique value
For Unique Value Matching, add the :dynamic_label_param modifier to the merge tag of the field that holds the value, such as a grant code in field 3:
https://example.com/grant-application/?dynamic_label={Grant code:3:dynamic_label_param}
Dynamic Labels decrypts the value and loads the first source entry whose Match Field (Source Form) has exactly that value. Use a value that is unique in the source form.
Set the source entry from a Gravity Flow workflow
Entries that a workflow creates or updates need no link. Dynamic Labels registers the entry meta Dynamic Label Value, which a Gravity Flow Form Connector step can fill:
- Add a New Entry or Update Entry step that targets the dynamic form.
- Map the Entry ID of the source entry to Dynamic Label Value. With Unique Value Matching, map the unique value instead.
The entry detail page, {all_fields} and GravityView then show the labels of that source entry, as for an entry submitted through a link.
Use another parameter name
When you change URL Parameter Key in the form settings, use that name in the link instead of dynamic_label:
https://example.com/grant-application/?grant={entry_id:dynamic_label_param}
Keep the parameter until the form is submitted
The entry stores the source reference from the URL when the form is submitted. Keep the parameter on the page that holds the form; if a redirect removes it, the labels are not shown and the entry does not remember its source entry.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. The value is encrypted with Gravity Forms encryption and cannot be changed without breaking it. Dynamic Labels also checks that the entry belongs to the selected source form.
No. The link keeps working as long as the source entry exists and the Gravity Forms encryption keys of the site do not change.
